What a shame
This is an another set back and disclosure of a cruel picture how "Freethinking" is being oppressed in Bangladesh. This story revealed that a man could be easily arrested just for keeping and reading any progressive book! What an apathy of intellectual bigotry ! Couple of years ago, I still remember that an honorable moulana of Bangladesh openly offered prize for a freethinker's head calling him/her "Murtaad"; his "generous" act went neither challenged nor he was arrested by the police. We always claim that Bangladesh is propagating towards democracy ! Is it this achievable democracy where giving fotwa (declaring publicly) to "kill people" will not be considered as illegal and punishable act? This is what we want ? The following story reveals the shameful implementation of that religious democracy in our country. The lealest victim of this inherited shameful culture is Mahmud Musa, the honorable journalist and head master of Shafiqpur High School of Nowga district , Bangladesh
Dear readers, this is not the only one story. The are hundreds of such shameful events continuously occurring in our beloved mother-land. In my previous posting I revealed one sad story of a valiant Freedom fighter Mr. Abdul wahab of Bangladesh who is a victim of Fotwa (religious edicts) of his village Moulanas. Mr. Wahab's only sin was that he was a reader of two secular bangla books -- "Je Golper shesh Nei" ("The story which never ends" - By Debi Prasad Chottopadhay) and "Shotter Shondhaney" (The Quest For Truth - By Aroj Ali Matubbar). The Moulanas gave edicts that wahab must have to round the whole village wearing the "garland of shoes" putting around his neck. And Wahab had to do that to save his own life from the militant mob inspired by village Mullahs. It is tragic such utter humiliation of Abdul Wahab went unchallenged. The book which is creating the trouble is parhaps Aroj Ali Matubbar's Shotter Shondhaney. The English translation of that book is kept in the following site. The interested readers may take a look :
