More Attempt to Censor This Site
Apparently this site angered another Muslim and he started a campaign to ban this site. I received the following emails and would like to thank and express my gratitude to all the friends who have stood by this site and have supported it.
Write to Brian Drolet, Project Manager at drolet@freespeech.org and
tell him that Free Speech is not just reserved for Muslims to abuse others'
beliefs!
Yours sincerely,
Islamic Monitor
Posted in several Muslim clubs on Yahoo this morning:
To all the Muslims
The Islamic Monitor sent me and other freethinkers a request to pre-empt
fundaMuslims' attempts to ban Mr Ali Sina's Rational Thinking website. I
complied and wrote a letter to Brian Drolet of Freespeech.Org, with a bcc for
the Islamic Monitor. I've now decided to send a cc to you as well (this sending,
like the sending to Islamic Monitor, is unknown to Freespeech.Org). For general
information, nothing more.
Mr Sina's website does not cause any damage to people or organizations or businesses. Neither does it abuse Islam any more than Islam may be said to abuse itself in its own sources, that is, it quotes those tenets and doctrines of Islam which are in need of scrutiny and promote understanding of Islamic mentality and behaviour today. As long as no-one is damaged personally, any compromise in the freedom of expression on the Internet is detrimental to its growth and liveliness. We request that the site should continue its insemination of free thoughts. As for the Muslims' claims that someone's belief should not be criticized, I should like to mention two issues concerning: First, the Muslims mean that only Islam should not be criticized. There are scores of Islamic websites criticizing Christianity, Judaism, atheism and polytheism without qualms, plus an extensive "Jihad Webring" which calls for armed assault against non-Muslim states, so it is only fair that the opponents of Islam should enjoy the same rights as do the propagators of Islam. The Qur'an, the book holy to Islam, criticizes the beliefs of the following groups: Jews and Christians (saying that Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but a Muslim; saying that the Jews displease God constantly; saying that the Christians worship three gods) and polytheists (deriding the polytheists' deities and assigning all polytheists to eternal hell-fire). Following the Muslim's logic of the prohibition to criticize people's beliefs, it would be necessary to ban any website which publishes the Qur'an - not a legitimate request, of course. Therefore, as long as the Qur'an is permitted to be published online, so must criticisms of Islam be permitted too. Second, the Muslims should be told that the best way to defend Islam is to offer online refutations to the criticisms. Defending Islam by censorship or violence only discredits it and speaks volumes of its being the "One True Religion". The religion of truth needs no combative defence - such an attitude shows great insecurity with regard to the strength of the religion. I request that you should clarify to the Muslim opponents of Ali Sina's website that their best and most respectable weapon against it is rational counter-refutation. Thanks for your time. I also received that message, and I too will write to Freespeech.org, however, I'm both skeptical and confident. First of all, I thought akhoona Sina's site was with Golshan now. If that is true, it will still stand if Freespeech drops it. That being said, I happen to be one of the web masters of the Freethought Mecca, and I can remember when freespeech.org TOSed the site... so be aware of the fact that freespeech (and tripod and xoom) has the reputation of being a site that will sell out to the whining cyber-mujahideen. It is best to have one's own server... but for those of us who don't, geocities is relatively tolerant. Maybe all us infidels shoudl get together and establish our own ikhwaan al-kaafireen, complete with a site like geocities (kufr-cities?) that offers web space to those who want to start sites critical of Islam. Any ideas? Imagine a server that had the FTMecca, Sina, and others all under its umbrella! that would be huge... the Muslims would see it as the embodiment of ad-Dajjal. I'm curious as to what others think... so for those of you who have things to contribute, hit the "reply all" button, and let us know.
